UITP publishes updated passenger charter

EUROPE: The International Association of Public Transport has published a new version of its Passenger Charter, which has been updated from the 2006 version in partnership with the European Passengers Federation to take account of regulatory changes and technical developments including the growth of e-ticketing and real-time information.

The charter is intended as a voluntary commitment by operators and authorities design to increase the quality of service. ‘It reflects the current technological improvements which the public transport sector is embracing, while ensuring the fundamental passengers’ rights defined by EU law’, said UITP Secretary General Mohamed Mezghani on January 24. ‘We encourage our European members to make use of this newly updated document.’

UITP’s membership includes more than 400 urban, suburban and regional public transport operators from the EU, as well as transport authorities from all member states.
