Aln Valley seeking more donors for Richboro appeal

NORTHUMBERLAND’S Aln Valley Railway (AVR) has been encouraged by the response to its fundraising appeal to acquire Hudswell, Clarke 0-6-0T Richboro (1243/1917) – but further donations are still needed if the Alnwick line is to meet its target.

Hudswell, Clarke 0-6-0T Richboro and ‘Austerity’ No. 60 double-head a passenger train into Alnwick Lionheart station on May 6, 2018, having just powered up in the bank from the original Alnwick branch. MATTHEW DITCH

The Friends of Richboro Appeal was launched last year to raise £75,000 towards the total £130,000 purchase price, as agreed with the loco’s owner, Mick Fairnington.

The AVR has already pledged £55,000 towards this sum, with the appeal hoping to raise the remainder by 2020.
