EUROPE: Leasing company European Loc Pool has awarded Stadler a firm contract to supply 10 Eurodual Co-Co electro-diesel freight locomotives, within a framework contract covering up to 100 locos.
The locomotives will have a 2·8 MW rating in diesel mode and up to 6·15 MW in electric mode, with the capability of working under 15 kV 16·7 Hz or 25 kV 50 Hz overhead electrification. They will be equipped with ETCS and radio remote controls and will have the ability to switch between diesel and electric power while moving.
Announcing the order on May 20, Stadler said the locomotives would offer ‘outstanding tractive effort’ thanks to their six powered axles. This would enable a single locomotive to replace two Bo-Bo locos on many European freight corridors, ‘significantly’ cutting operators’ costs. The manufacturer said ‘innovative bogie technology’ would help minimise track wear and thus track access charges.

Swiss-based ELP was officially launched by Reichmuth & Co and PCS Holding at InnoTrans 2018. It said its initial focus would be on offering full-service leasing packages for electro-diesel locomotives, with multi-system electric locos and electro-diesel shunting locos also planned.
