Severn Valley to benefit from Virgin nameplate auction

THE Severn Valley Railway and Kidderminster Railway Museum will benefit from an auction of nameplates from a number of Class 390 Virgin ‘Pendolino’ sets.

Virgin’s tenure of the franchise ends on December 8, with nameplates and nose crests from the front of the sets being removed and auctioned off.

Earlier in the year, £17,500 was raised for the mental health charity Rethink from plates auctioned at the Crewe open day.

The nameplates being sold on this occasion will include City of Birmingham, City of Preston, City of Stoke on Trent, City of Liverpool, Virgin Glory, Virgin King, Virgin Invader, and Virgin Venturer.

The nameplates and crests will be displayed in the museum for two days – October 4-5 – during the SVR’s diesel gala, which runs from October 3-6.
