The Hornby Class 43 HST Power Cars 43002 and 43003 in BR blue and grey are currently sold out on Hornby’s website.

Officially the fastest diesel trains in the world, the High Speed Trains were introduced to the western region of British Rail in the mid 1970s, operating 125mph services between Paddington and Bristol/South Wales. The original Inter-City 125 livery of yellow wrap-around ends, with the Rail Blue design being cut diagonally with grey towards the back of the loco, lasted into the early 1980s.

To celebrate the class… and its impending departure, we’ve released the bookazine Intercity 125: High Speed Tribute.

The iconic InterCity125 High Speed Trains have been a mainstay of some of our fastest railway lines for well over 40 years, with their streamlined styling blazing a trail across the UK.

Now as the end of their reign in front line express passenger service approaches, author Andy Coward takes a look back at these historic trains, which have helped to shape modern high speed travel on the UK railways, from their design and introduction, through to their colourful post-privatisation lives and their rundown from front line services.

Undoubtedly a very successful design, time is now running out for the InterCity HSTs and we pay tribute to this British railway success story.

To stand a chance of winning this superb model, and a copy of the bookazine, all you have to do is click here and enter your details in the form.
