Roof topped out as Bank upgrade passes halfway stage

WORK to upgrade Bank Tube station passed a milestone in early September when the roof over the new entrance on Cannon Street was topped out.

This entrance will provide direct access to the Northern Line and connect to the Central Line via a moving walkway.

The major project is just over halfway complete, and is due to be finished in 2022 when capacity at the busy interchange – which already handles more than 120 million passengers per year – will rise by 40%.

Work is on-going to fit out the entrance, adding dividing walls and operational rooms across its 11 storeys.

There will eventually be two lifts at the Cannon Street entrance, 12 escalators and two moving walkways.

A new southbound tunnel and platform on the Northern Line are also nearing completion.
