Western Champion re-engined but woes continue after festival Uncategorized by railsistem@gmail.com - December 5, 20190 MAIN-LINE certificated Class 52 No. D1015 Western Champion is seen at Severn Valley Railway (SVR) Kidderminster, ex-works, on September 15. Owner Diesel Traction Group has installed an overhauled MD655 engine in the B end, which was started successfully, and the loco participated in the SVR’s October 3-6 diesel festival. However, the A-end engine has deteriorated because of a drop in oil pressure and a coolant leak. Following the gala this engine will be replaced with the 538-series engine that has been rebuilt at Kidderminster. An engine bought from Germany will be kept as a maintenance spare as its mountings require modification. No. D1015 has been repainted in BR Rail blue. The previous livery was BR maroon and prior to that it carried BR experimental golden ochre livery.
