Weather disruption continues on West Coast Main Line
Passengers cannot travel north of Preston this morning as the result of heavy rain. National Rail said between 100mm and 130mm of rain had fallen on high ground in Cumbria and South Lanarkshire and as a result Network Rail has imposed speed restrictions, while Avanti West Coast said it could not run trains between England and Scotland for the time being. However, it may be possible to introduce some local shuttle services after 13.00. Northern has suspended its services between Maryport and Carlisle, because the line is blocked by floods. ScotRail has temporarily withdrawn all services between Dumfries and Carlisle, and warned of delays on other routes in south west Scotland. TransPennine Express said it was ‘strongly advising’ passengers not to travel.
