Weather disruption warnings spread to north west

Warnings of disruption to train services because of very high temperatures have spread to north west England.

A red warning of extreme heat in southern England and the Midlands has already caused the railway to urge passengers not to travel in those areas unless they must, but Network Rail has said an amber extreme heat warning in the north west means that some timetables in the region will be changed and journeys will take longer, because speed restrictions have been imposed to reduce the load on hot rails.

There will be no rail replacement bus services.

North West network operations director Ross Davies said: ‘We are asking passengers to check with their train operators or on the National Rail Enquiries website before they travel in the next few days. If you do need to travel, please plan ahead, allow yourself extra time and take precautions where necessary.

‘This extremely hot weather will have an impact across the country this week, so look for the latest guidance in your area.’
