ECML deserted for Bank Holiday engineering work

STARK warnings to passengers about avoiding the East Coast Main Line (ECML) over the August Bank Holiday weekend appear to have done their job as Network Rail completed major work as planned at several locations. 

On August 24 and 25, engineers worked around the clock to complete the renewal of signalling at the south end of the ECML, affecting long-distance services and Thameslink and Great Northern commuter routes. 

The unique flat crossing at Newark with its bespoke trackwork was replaced over the weekend of August 25-27, with major engineering work also taking place at King’s Cross and Stevenage. NETWORK RAIL

Overhead line equipment (OHLE) was also upgraded at King’s Cross in readiness for improvements to the track layout and the power supply, which will take place at a later stage of the £1.2billion project.
