Funding sought for new station near Leeds
NEXT week’s meeting of the West Yorkshire Combined Authority Investment Committee will be asked to approve funding of £2.6 million toward the development a new White Rose station on the line between Leeds and Dewsbury. The new station would serve the White Rose office park, Elliott Hudson College and the White Rose Shopping Centre.

New station at Cambridge South is ‘urgently needed’
THE Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough James Palmer said that a station at Cambridge South must be provided locally, because there is ‘very little chance of it arriving by 2027 as part of the Government’s East West Rail plans’. The Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority added that a new station is ‘urgently needed’, particularly to serve Addenbrooke’s Hospital.

Free travel for London Poppy Day
POPPY Day collectors will be able to travel free to London on many trains today, so long as they are in uniform or carry identification. Some train companies will offer free travel to veterans and current members of the Armed Forces on Remembrance Sunday, which is 10 November.

Threat to Settle and Carlisle railway removed
THE side of a steep railway cutting which was edging slowly towards the Settle and Carlisle line has been strengthened at a cost of £1.2million. The cutting is at Fothergill near Kirkby Stephen. Engineers dug out waterlogged soil and laid 11,500 tonnes of rock. A new drainage system was also installed.

New database should help to prevent bridge strikes
TRANSPORT FOR LONDON has reached an agreement with Ordnance Survey to make information freely available about the heights of bridges and tunnels in Greater London. The details are mainly for lorry operators and drivers, but also for developers and academics. The data will allow fleet operators to check that they are not sending high vehicles under limited-height structures.

East Midlands Railway launches online community
EAST MIDLANDS RAILWAY will be finding out more about its passengers’ journeys after launching an online community to help them share their experiences. ‘The Platform’ will help EMR to speak directly to customers and ‘make real improvements quickly and effectively’, Sarah Turner of EMR said: ‘We have a post-travel survey but it doesn’t tell us our customers’ stories.’
